Finally...an update!
Hello Family & Friends!
I do apologize (especially to you Jill Vietor) for not updating this site sooner. I will try to do better! Lets see, since the last update, we've been to Disney World, and that was the most wonderful vacation! Delaney did very well with being away from home for 2 weeks. We spent the first night of our trip with family in Macon, Georgia. Then a week in Orlando, 2 days in Naples, Florida with family, and 2 days in Tennessee with William's grandparents. It was a much needed and fun vacation for us. Delaney loved Mickey Mouse and we have some great pictures of her with not only Mickey Mouse, but Cinderella and Snow White! Her souvenirs from Mommy & Daddy were Mickey and Minnie stuffed characters, which she still likes to play with. She even says Mickey and Minnie and "beeps" their noses.
Anyway, on to what's new with Delaney...well, as of Tuesday she weighed 16 lbs and is 29 1/2 inches tall. She isn't fully walking yet, but oh so very close! She will walk holding onto just one of my fingers now. She has cut another 4 teeth, giving her a total of 12! She is talking and babbling all of the time and says about 20 words! Her communication skills are way above her actual age, she is actually up to a 24 month age level in some areas! (per her First Steps evaluation with a speech therapist) She is eating better. Her favorite foods are chicken nuggets, turkey, bananas, spaghetti, mashed potatoes, toast, scrambled eggs, pizza, apples, cookies, and pretty much anything chocolate! We are transitioning her from her formula to Pediasure, which is a 30 calorie nutritious drink. Somehow we need to get her to gain some weight. She eats a nice wide variety of foods (except she does not care for vegetables), she just does not eat enough yet to support her nutritional needs. She is taking milk from her sippy cup and doing very well with it, but again she is not drinking enough of milk alone to do away with formula or the Pediasure. We take a day at a time and pray everyday for her.
We do have more good news! Just today I had a meeting with Delaney's First Steps team and she no longer needs any physical therapy and we are reducing her occupational therapy to 2 x/month! We are keeping the OT just to help monitor her feeding skills & weight gain, and to be sure her Fine Motor skills stay on track. We PRAISE GOD with everything in us for the work he has done in Delaney both physically and mentally. We also had a visit with her neurologist this week and Dr. Smith was so very pleased with Delaney's progress. We don't go back for 6 months and Delaney will have a CT scan at that time as well. Each time I look at Delaney I know I have witnessed a miracle. Only God could have brought her through everything and kept her from having permanent brain damage from the Hydrocephalus and other physical complications because of her prematurity. What a testimony her life is! She is our spunky little girl and we love her so very much!
William stays quite busy with the firehouse and lawncare. He is going to be even busier this next month with Fall clean-up projects and some landscaping accounts. We miss him, but know we'll see more of him this winter. Delaney and I enjoy our days together. She loves to read her books, ride her car, swing, feed Tank (which he likes too), listen to music, play with her blocks and kitchen. She keeps me quite busy! I love it though and wouldn't trade being home with my daughter for anything in the world! We visit with her cousins, take walks, go to the Children's Museum, Target, and play outside.
Well, I'll update again next week. Tomorrow we are attending the Riley Hospital NICU reunion and are looking forward to seeing some of the doctors, nurses, and other staff that took such special care of our precious Delaney during those long 3 1/2 months last summer! Hopefully we'll see some of the other NICU families we met and get some pictures to share with all of you.
Continue to keep Delaney in your prayers! Pray that her shunt continues to work properly, that she continues to progress with her eating, and that she gains some weight!
